Training, Speaking & Workplace Consultancy

Helping organisations understand what capable people are carrying

Burnout is rarely solved by teaching employees to become more resilient within systems that continue to require over-functioning.

Many of the people organisations most depend upon are thoughtful, conscientious and deeply committed. They anticipate problems, carry emotional responsibility, compensate for gaps and quietly work beyond their capacity.

Their competence can hide the cost, until they burn out, disengage or leave.

I work with organisations and leaders to understand how trauma, communication, neurodivergence and patterns of over-responsibility show up at work.

My training and consultancy combine clinical psychological insight with practical organisational thinking. The aim is to improve psychological safety, reduce avoidable burnout and help organisations retain capable people without relying upon chronic self-sacrifice.

The Good Person Trap® at work

The Good Person Trap® describes what can happen when being good, helpful, capable or responsible becomes connected to safety, belonging and worth.

At work, this may look like:

  • taking responsibility for problems beyond your role

  • anticipating everybody else’s needs

  • being unable to say no without guilt

  • over-preparing and repeatedly checking work

  • avoiding honest conversations in case somebody feels uncomfortable

  • masking distress or neurodivergent needs

  • becoming the unofficial emotional support for a team

  • compensating for unclear systems or poor management

  • continuing to perform while approaching burnout

  • believing that needing support means you are failing

These patterns can be rewarded in the short term. The person appears dependable, flexible and highly productive.

Over time, the organisation may lose precisely the people it has relied upon most.

The Good Person Trap® provides a framework for understanding the interaction between individual psychology, team culture, leadership and organisational systems.

Workplace consultancy

Consultancy provides space to examine what is happening beneath a presenting organisational problem.

This may include:

  • reviewing wellbeing or psychological-safety provision

  • understanding patterns behind burnout, absence or turnover

  • examining how communication and responsibility operate within teams

  • identifying barriers experienced by neurodivergent employees

  • advising on inclusive language and practical adjustments

  • supporting leaders to respond to distress without becoming clinicians

  • reviewing how organisational systems reward over-functioning

  • developing recommendations for a more sustainable working culture

The work is tailored to the organisation rather than based on a generic wellbeing package.

Clinical and strategic consultation

I also provide psychologically informed consultation where an organisation is managing a complex individual, team or service-level situation.

This might include:

  • thinking through the psychological dimensions of workplace distress

  • supporting HR or leaders to understand a complex presentation

  • advising on appropriate boundaries and routes of support

  • helping organisations distinguish between management, occupational health, therapy and crisis needs

  • consultation around trauma, eating difficulties, neurodivergence or return to work

Consultation does not replace occupational health, legal advice, safeguarding procedures or an employer’s duty of care. Its role is to add clinical understanding and help organisations make more informed decisions.

Who I work with

I work with organisations that want to move beyond performative wellbeing activity and understand what employees actually experience.

This may include:

  • NHS and healthcare organisations

  • universities and education providers

  • professional services

  • charities and values-led organisations

  • clinical and therapeutic services

  • leadership teams

  • HR, people and culture teams

  • employee networks and staff groups

  • organisations experiencing burnout, retention or communication difficulties

I can work with organisations of different sizes. The most important factor is a willingness to think honestly about individual and systemic responsibility.

Why work with me?

I bring together:

  • more than 15 years of experience across mental health and healthcare

  • experience across primary, secondary and tertiary NHS services

  • acute, crisis, community and specialist clinical experience

  • four years within university mental health, disability and wellbeing support

  • registration as a Mental Health Nurse

  • BABCP accreditation as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist

  • EMDR therapy training

  • specialist understanding of trauma, OCD, eating disorders and neurodivergence

  • lived understanding of AuDHD and the cost of prolonged masking

  • experience running an independent clinical practice and working with highly responsible professionals

  • The Good Person Trap® as a distinctive framework for burnout and over-functioning

My work considers the person and the system together.

I do not treat burnout as evidence that an employee has failed to practise enough self-care. Nor do I assume that organisations can remove every source of pressure.

The useful work sits in understanding what can genuinely change, who holds responsibility for it and how to create conditions in which capable people can contribute without continually abandoning themselves.
