Therapy for You
For people who are used to being the capable one
You may be thoughtful, dependable and highly self-aware. You may understand your patterns, know where they came from and even be able to predict what a therapist might say.
And yet, something still is not shifting.
You may appear capable from the outside while privately living with overthinking, emotional exhaustion, shame, self-doubt or the fear that you have somehow got something wrong.
I offer focused, formulation-led CBT and EMDR therapy for adults who want to understand what is maintaining these patterns and create meaningful, sustainable change.
Therapy is available online and in person from my private therapy room in Norwich.

Who I work with
I work particularly with thoughtful, highly responsible adults, including therapists, healthcare professionals, leaders, helpers and people who are usually the one holding everything together.
You may be experiencing:
-
obsessive doubt, rumination or OCD
-
over-responsibility and fear of making the wrong decision
-
perfectionism, people-pleasing or chronic self-criticism
-
burnout, emotional exhaustion or difficulty resting
-
shame or a persistent sense of not being good enough
-
trauma, emotional neglect or attachment-related difficulties
-
neurodivergent overwhelm, masking or sensory needs
-
a complicated relationship with food, control or your body
-
considerable insight without the emotional shift you hoped for
You do not need a formal diagnosis or a perfectly organised account of what is wrong.
The Good Person Trap®
Many of the people I work with have learned that being good, helpful, capable or responsible is connected to safety, belonging and worth.
You may feel compelled to:
-
anticipate other people’s needs
-
prevent harm, upset or disappointment
-
make the right decision
-
explain yourself until you cannot be misunderstood
-
remain endlessly patient and accommodating
-
carry more than your fair share
-
earn rest through productivity
-
avoid appearing selfish, careless or difficult
I call this The Good Person Trap®.
The aim of therapy is not to make you less caring. It is to help you retain your values without being governed by fear, compulsion or chronic self-abandonment.
How I work
My approach is warm, active, collaborative and formulation-led.
Together, we develop an understanding of how your experiences, beliefs, relationships, protective responses, nervous system and present circumstances may fit together.
Depending on your needs, therapy may draw upon:
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
-
EMDR
-
Exposure and Response Prevention
-
Inference-Based CBT
-
compassion-focused approaches
-
attachment-focused EMDR
-
parts-informed work
-
somatic and body-based regulation
-
sensory and neurodivergence-informed adaptations
Therapy is not about collecting techniques. We use the approaches that make sense for your individual formulation, goals, preferences and capacity.

Inclusive and individually adapted therapy
My practice is LGBTQIA+ affirming, neurodivergence-informed and culturally responsive.
We can adapt how we work around:
-
communication preferences
-
sensory needs
-
executive functioning
-
processing time
-
physical access
-
identity, culture and wider context
You will not be expected to disclose everything immediately or process traumatic experiences before you are ready.
Is this the right setting?
My practice offers independent outpatient psychological therapy. It is not a crisis or emergency service.
A different or additional service may be needed if you currently require:
-
urgent or crisis support
-
frequent contact between appointments
-
multidisciplinary care
-
significant medical monitoring
-
a more intensive level of mental-health provision
If I believe another professional or service would be better placed to meet your needs, I will be transparent about this and provide reasonable signposting where possible.
Starting therapy
You do not need to decide whether you need CBT, EMDR or an intensive before getting in touch.
The usual first step is a Clarity & Direction Assessment. This gives us enough time to think carefully about what is happening, whether my practice is the right setting and what may genuinely help.
Completing the assessment does not oblige you to continue therapy with me.
