What does working with me look like?

Therapy here is trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming, and paced to what your nervous system can tolerate. There’s no fixed programme and no expectation that you already know what you need.

How we begin

Initial sessions (assessment and orientation)

We start by understanding what’s brought you to therapy, your history, and how you currently cope. This includes exploring patterns around food, emotions, relationships, trauma, dissociation, and nervous system regulation, where relevant.

The aim at this stage isn’t to rush into change, but to build a shared understanding of what’s going on and what would feel most supportive.

Setting direction

Collaborative focus

Together, we agree on what the work is for. This might include:

  • easing distress

  • understanding long-standing patterns

  • processing trauma

  • rebuilding trust in your body

  • creating more flexibility around food, emotions, or control

Goals are revisited as the work evolves.

Ongoing work

Working with patterns, not against them

As therapy continues, we explore the patterns that once helped you cope but may now be costing you. This can include self-criticism, perfectionism, over-control, avoidance, or dissociation.

Depending on what’s appropriate, the work may involve:

  • reflective CBT-based exploration

  • EMDR for processing memories or beliefs

  • body-based or sensory-informed regulation

  • practical support for boundaries, emotional regulation, or regular eating

Nothing is imposed. We move at a pace that feels sustainable.

Integration and review

Therapy isn’t linear. There may be periods of deeper work and periods of consolidation. We regularly review how the therapy is feeling, what’s changing, and whether the work still feels helpful.

I don’t assume therapy should continue indefinitely. Often it’s a focused period of work, with space to step back when that feels right.

You don’t need to be in crisis

Many people come to this work not because things are falling apart, but because they’re tired of managing, coping, or holding everything together.

This work is for people who want understanding, not quick fixes, and who value a thoughtful, collaborative process.

If you’d like to explore whether this way of working feels right, you can book a clarity call or read more on the Are We a Good Fit? page.
