What Therapy with Me Looks Like

Are you looking for compassionate, specialist support that helps you make sense of your emotions, patterns, and past experiences—without feeling pathologised or pressured into a one-size-fits-all approach?

I’m Becky Grace, a BABCP-accredited CBT and EMDR therapist and Registered Mental Health Nurse offering online and in-person sessions.

This page answers a question I’m often asked:

“What does working with you actually look like?”

Who I Work With

I work with adults who are ready to understand themselves more deeply and create lasting change.

Many of my clients are:

  • Neurodivergent (ADHD or Autism), often with overlapping trauma, burnout, or emotional regulation difficulties

  • Living with the after-effects of trauma, complex childhood experiences, or relational wounds

  • Struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, or chronic self-criticism

  • Experiencing emotional eating, binge eating, ARFID, or other eating difficulties that are linked to trauma, sensory sensitivities, or neurodiversity

  • Navigating midlife changes or identity transitions—such as perimenopause, career shifts, or relationship changes

You don’t have to fit neatly into a diagnosis to work with me.

If you’re someone who feels “too much,” “too sensitive,” or just tired of holding it all together, this is the space for you.

My Background and Approach

Before starting my private practice, I worked in NHS adult mental health services, including an Eating Disorders Service supporting people with complex and high-risk presentations.

That experience taught me that healing is rarely linear—and that real change happens when therapy honours the whole person: mind, body, and nervous system.

I’m trained in:

  • Accredited CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) for a range of mental health difficulties

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) for trauma and attachment wounds

  • CBT-E and CBT-AR, evidence-based treatments for eating disorders and ARFID but delivered in an individualised way.

  • Body-based and sensory-informed approaches, drawing from my background as a Registered Mental Health Nurse, Yoga Teacher, and Personal Trainer

  • Introduction to Somatic Experiencing

  • Currently in accreditation process for EMDR

  • Working towards Sensory Integration

This blend allows me to work flexibly—integrating evidence-based tools with compassion, curiosity, and attention to your lived experience.

A Holistic, Person-Centred Approach

Therapy with me isn’t about ticking boxes or fitting into a model.
It’s about understanding why certain patterns developed, how they’ve helped you survive, and what you need now to truly thrive.

We might use:

  • CBT to explore thoughts, behaviours, and emotional patterns

  • EMDR to process memories or beliefs that keep you stuck

  • Sensory and body-based techniques to help you feel safer and more connected in your body

  • Practical tools for emotional regulation, boundaries, and nervous system support

  • Nutritional and behavioural strategies to support regular eating and body reconnection, where relevant

Every plan is tailored collaboratively—guided by your goals, your values, and your capacity.

What to Expect

Here’s a general overview of what therapy together often looks like:

1–2 Sessions: Assessment
We explore your history, current challenges, and what brings you to therapy. I’ll also assess for trauma, dissociation, and neurodivergent traits so we can understand your experience holistically.

1–2 Sessions: Collaborative Goal Setting
We create meaningful, achievable goals that reflect what you want from therapy—not just symptom relief, but deeper change.

Early Sessions: Building Safety and Understanding
We focus on stabilisation, regulation, and insight—developing tools that help you feel grounded and supported as we begin to make sense of patterns and emotions.

Middle Phase: Working with Patterns and Beliefs
This stage often includes exploring relationships, trauma memories, self-criticism, perfectionism, or coping strategies such as restrictive eating, bingeing, or emotional avoidance. EMDR or other trauma-focused methods may be used when appropriate.

Ongoing Work: Integration and Growth
As therapy progresses, we focus on integrating new ways of being—helping you live more authentically, trust your intuition, and sustain emotional and physical balance.

Throughout, the process remains collaborative and flexible. We adjust as your needs evolve.

You Don’t Need to Be in Crisis

Many of my clients come because they’re not in crisis—but they’re ready for something deeper.
They want to move beyond survival, beyond over-functioning, and towards a life that feels aligned, meaningful, and calm.
