Starting therapy for your young person can feel daunting, so I want to help you understand what happens from the very first contact. Here’s what you can expect whether you choose the free 20-minute introduction call or book the first full 50-minute in-person session with me.
The Free 20-Minute Introduction Call
This short, no-pressure call is a chance for you (and your young person, if they wish) to:
Ask questions about therapy and my approach
Discuss what brought you here and your hopes for support
See if I’m the right fit before committing to a full session
The First Full 50-Minute In-Person Session
This session is a key starting point. It serves as an introductory assessment, where I get to know your young person, understand their challenges, and explore what kind of support would be most helpful.
If your young person is under 18, we begin with a brief 5-minute meeting with you, the caregiver or parent responsible for payment or insurance. During this time, I will:
Explain the attendance and cancellation policy:
A minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required for cancellations or rescheduling
Advance payment secures the booking
No refunds are given for missed sessions without proper notice
Clarify confidentiality — I cannot share details of sessions unless there is a significant risk or safeguarding concern, which can be hard to understand, so I take time to explain this clearly
Answer any practical questions you may have
After this, your young person will join me to discuss how they’re feeling and what they want to work on. If needed, I’ll also provide signposting to additional resources or services.
Why This Approach?
It respects your young person’s privacy while keeping you informed and involved
It sets clear expectations about attendance and payments
It creates a safe, supportive foundation for therapy
Have Questions?
If you’re unsure whether to start with the introduction call or book the first full session, or if you want to discuss anything else, please get in touch. I’m here to support you and your family every step of the way.
